More than 3,000 officers called out sick Wednesday, and nearly 500 have quit since February amid the partial Department of Homeland Security shutdown, officials said.
The airport is partnering with IDEMIA, an authorized TSA PreCheck enrollment provider, to allow travelers to enroll or renew their membership. The program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and lawful permanent residents.
At Bush Airport in Houston, TSA PreCheck closed at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
While it added time to security lines, it offered a layer of tangible protection against a proven threat vector. The landscape changed during the Trump Administration, which pushed for a "shoes on" policy to streamline the checkpoint process.
