As I build more model ships, I’ve become increasingly fascinated by the art, history, and technique of traditional sailing knots. Rigging is such an important part of every ship model, and I’m now working to make my knots as authentic and accurate as possible. Sailors depended on these knots for everything: raising sails, mooring the ship, securing cargo, and surviving harsh weather. It good knot could make the difference between life and death...Even in model building, good knotwork makes a wor
