Would adorn a codpiece in the Tudor court? The effigy of Anthony St Ledger, with his noble codpiece, perfectly illustrate the treasures that are just waiting to be discovered in England’s rural medieval parish churches. I am sure that there is much more to history of codpieces than I could cover in this short introduction. However, after stumbling across Anthony St Leger’s effigy, it made me wonder, what are the origins of the codpiece, and it turned out to be more interesting than I thought.
