Prep-Work For Fretwork The key to a better fret job, is prep-work. Here I’m radiusing the fret wire and cutting the frets to length. I always cut the first and last inch off the ends of the fret wire as that part doesn’t radius. Then I am using the Stewmac deluxe fret tang nipper on the ends of the frets. Normally this tang nipper does a good enough job that I can just seat the frets after using it. But on this neck I wanted to make sure that the ends were flat so I went over each one with a fil

I was talking to @grainwork last week about fretwork. I enjoy the process I've created and improved on over the last 15 years. I use a few files to shape everything, then some sandpaper to remove scratches, followed by micro mesh pads to polish the metal. To use more of the pad surface and speed the process up with proficiency, I bridge the strips across multiple frets.
