The free chicken food you might not know about... it’s Azolla! A gorgeous, fast-growing water fern that’s native to here (lutruwita) and many other places in the world, too... We designed this little pond at the bottom of our garden with azolla in mind.... knowing it would thrive on the runoff from our garden, and provide an excellent feed supplement for our chickens. Once you have azolla, it never really goes away - and it can grow REALLY quickly, so harvesting some regularly is no problem. Azo

Growing Azolla for feed The small plant azolla floats on the water of ponds and grows very fast. It is rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals Azolla fixes nitrogen from the air and stores this in its leaves. Azolla is richer in protein, vitamins and minerals than grains and most green fodder. Because of this and because azolla grows fast and easily in a small area, it makes an ideal addition to feed. | Farmvilla Resource Centre
