Behind every great performance is a moment like this: Benjamin Zander demonstrating a Mahler 1 phrase on the cello. Fun fact: Zander began as a young cellist and composer, studying composition with Benjamin Britten and Imogen Holst at age twelve, and later cello with the great Spanish virtuoso Gaspar Cassadó at fifteen.
