During cervical procedures like biopsies or colposcopy, anesthesia options are available to make the experience more comfortable. The cervix has many sensitive nerve fibers, which is why even small biopsies can cause pain. ACOG now recommends discussing local anesthesia such as lidocaine spray, injections, or oral pain relievers like etoricoxib before the procedure.
